Report on COIS OU Organization

Kevin Burney gave a presentation on the OU structure for COIS. Kevin also explained how COIS makes extensive use of the OU structures and security groups to apply GPOs for the different units they support and how they are utilizing loopback processing for student accounts.

Report on Econ's move to CalNetAD

Graham Patterson gave a report on the OU structure for the Economics Department and some of the issues they have been discussing as they plan to migrate into CalNetAD. A text version of his presentation is availabe at http://emlab.berkeley.edu/~grahamp/.

Certificate Server Status

Eric Chamberlain reported that the certificate server testing is completed. Production certificate servers will be deployed when Windows Server 2003 RTM is released.

Demonstration of Loopback GPO processing

Arden Pineda gave a presentation on the steps to implement loopback processing. A copy of his PowerPoint presentation is available here.

Position statement on the use of firewalls to protect CalNetAD infrastructure

The group agreed that coming up with a formal firewall position/proposal by the CalNetAD Planning group was a good idea. They discussed various campus groups/units that might be appropriate as a place to present this proposal and came up with CISC and the CIO (Jack McCredie) as two likely candidates.

Mike Sinatra mentioned that he was working on a firewall/vpn project that might be relevant to our proposals and agreed to send the group a brief summary of his ideas that could be used as a starting point or as an example of a desirable solution, etc. in the proposal.

The group agreed to put the topic on the agenda of the next general meeting for further discussion and exploration of remote access solutions.
